I made these electronic pieces to test an idea that I was developing that later came to be the technique of diagonal metamorphosis. This is a permutative technique in which sound is parameterized and then subjected to repetitive transformations such that different “melodies” are played out in musical sequences of pitch (as usual for melody), but also loudness, accents, dynamics, technique, timbre and other articulative possibilities intersect in a particular heard note at a particular moment. This process is akin to enacting a counterpoint of lines, however, here the heard result is at each moment a single musical monad, a unified sonic identity.

Electronic treatment allowed me to test this idea in different ways and led to the formation of this technique and its application in several forthcoming pieces.

Some of these work quite nicely for multichannel sound diffusion!
