Small Island in Ideal Colours 1898 is a binaural audio excerpt from my 4 hour 20 minute 25 channel sound installation environment Island in Natural Colours (see note below). In this film images sampled from sources of images similar to those sampled in the audio are used to articulate the conceptual investigations that occupy the piece. Flocks of swarming synthetic sounds and fields of zero-scale chromatic diamonds are situated within contradictory and evolving sound spaces accompanied by bucolic selections from the 1898 edition of the journal Birds and All Nature in Natural Colors and The Ecological Encyclopedia of Animals Movements. These are at times cross-pollinated with real and imagined sources of environmental sounds, to include mathematics.
